Just wanted to stop and say Hi to everyone. I was on a few years back but eventually stopped posting or checking as I had to put our young pup down because of some serious health issues and the safety of our kids. I stopped hunting and everything, but, after a few years I decided i was ready and we just bought another lab pup a couple weeks ago! I've been going over my old training stuff but you guys might hear from me occasionally on some weird question! Just wanted to say Hi Thats all I got! I am glad to be back!

did your dog have distemper.   curious as to what created safety issues for your children.

Diesel was having major seizures and would come out of them extremely violent. The only one that he would calm down with was me. Went after my wife who ran into a bedroom to escape. I rushed home from work (two minutes away) and found him still crazy. Calmed him down eventually. That particular scenario only happened once though. Became a safety issue with my 2 and 4 yr old. After repeated seizures and coming out violent. Didn't want them on the receiving end of that. Not sure what the problem was. Vet was not very helpful. He told us he could give us a medication that he would have to be on the rest of his life (which we would have done) but it may not solve the the problem. We slept on it a few nights, seizure happened again and he went after me a bit and thats when we decided it was becoming a safety concern. Was the worst decision I have ever had to make. He was just over 2 years old. We've only had to make that decision before with older dogs before but never one that young.

He's five, just started training him 2 months ago though. He's half standard poodle and half english retriever! No hunting blood in a long line of ancestors, so it was great to see he's got the drive!
